Inviting renowned foreign teachers to participate in professional core course construction and lecturing for undergraduates is one of the most important measures taken by SHOU to promote the development of the major of Aquatic Science and Technology into a first-class undergraduate major. On May 28-29, at the invitation of the College of Fisheries and Life Science, Shane Willis, Chairman of Ornamental Fish International and visiting professor at the major of Aquatic Science and Technology visited SHOU, and gave a lecture.
Based on Aquarium Sciences, Professor Shane Willis introduced the development status of the global aquarium industry, and analyzed the challenges faced by the industry in terms of development trend, animal welfare, bio-safety, bio-invasion, sustainable development, and so forth and related countermeasures. The lecture, featured of illustrated contents and abundant information, deepened students’ understanding of the major and the industry from a global vision. At the end of the lecture, Shane Willis engaged in lively discussions and exchanges with teachers and students.
As a world-class expert in aquarium fish, Professor Shane Willis has engaged in the aquarium fish industry for nearly two decades, and accumulated rich experience in aquarium fish cultivation and aquaculture. At present, he serves as Chairman of Ornamental Fish International and council members of Australia fishery training institutions, and offers professional consultation and training services for the aquarium fish industry, the aquaculture industry, and the pet industry. In addition, he is also engaged in fishery and aquarium teaching at the College of Fisheries of the University of Tasmania in Australia.
