On May 9, the Polar Research Center of SHOU (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) was formally inaugurated. This is an important achievement made by SHOU through effectively making full use of existing resources, solidly conducting polar investigation, international cooperation, and scientific research, and actively taking part in polar affairs, and also an effective measure taken by SHOU to contribute Chinese wisdom and Chinese force to polar development and construct the marine community of common destiny.
Focusing on polar marine ecosystem as its core research area, the Center will also try to promote scientific research and talent training in polar climate and environment, polar biological resource conservation and management, polar policy and law, and many other fields, continue to strengthen its cooperation with domestic polar research institutions, and advance and consolidate its cooperative polar research with Australia, Japan, the US, New Zealand, France, Germany, the UK, Portugal, South Korea, Italy, South Africa, Spain, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, and many other countries; by strengthening exchanges between students and scientific researchers, it aims to build an internationally known and domestic first-class international cooperation platform for polar research.
