SHOU Professor Participating in the Successful Decoding of Opium Poppy Genome

Recently, the website http://www.bioon.com/ published a paper entitled Science: Big News! The Team Led by Ye Kai from Xi'an Jiaotong University Successfully Decoding Opium Poppy Genome, saying that In a new study, researchers from Xi'an Jiaotong University and SHOU of China, York University and Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute of UK, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. of Australia have decoded the DNA of opium poppy genome, and revealed a critical step by which this plant can be used to produce compounds for making important drugs.

It is reported that professor Lu Ying from the College of Fisheries and Life Science of SHOU has participated in this study, and contributed to the successful decoding of opium poppy genome. Lu Ying, male, was born in Shanghai in May, 1973; in 1995, he graduated from the Department of Chemistry of East China Normal University, and received a Bachelor Degree in Science; in 2006, he graduated from the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and obtained his Doctoral Degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry; in 2006~2008, he was engaged in postdoctoral research in the College of Food Science of the University of Manitoba. In 2009~2016, he worked in succession as assistant research fellow and associate research fellow in the Institute of Plant Physiology & Ecology, SIBS, CAS. From December 2016 on, he was a research fellow at the College of Fisheries and Life Science of SHOU, responsible for genome research on aquatic animals and plants and organisms living in extreme environments. He has published papers on Nature, Nature Genetics, Genome Research, BMC Plant Biology, BMC Genomics, Plant Molecular Biology and many other leading journals both at home and abroad. His papers about moso bamboo genome and grass carp genome were published on Nature Genetics, an authoritative journal in genetics, in April of 2013 and June of 2015, respectively.
