Vietnamese Alumni Returned for Celebrating SHOU Anniversary

On the occasion of the anniversary in November, trận thanh xuân andnguyễn vấn sử, Vietnamese alumnirepresentatives of the 1966-graduated freshwater aquaculture majors fromShanghai Ocean University (SOU), travelled a long distance from Vietnam andreturned to their alma mater to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the foundingof SHOU.

In the 1950s and 60s, SHOU enrolled undergraduate students and exchangestudents from Vietnam and North Korea . According to the instructions of the Ministryof National Higher Education in October 1955, SHOU accepted the first 6Vietnamese students majoring in marine fishing. During the period of 12 yearsfrom 1955 to 1966, there were 9 years that foreign students were enrolled tostudy in China, majoring in marine fishing (later changed to industrialfishing), freshwater aquaculture, mariculture, aquatic processing technology,canned food process and refrigeration process. A total of 88 foreign studentsreceived education from SHOU. Most of the Vietnamese students returning to theirhome country have become Vietnam's top aquaculture scientists and techniciansand many of them hold leading positions, for example, võ vấn trác, ViceMinister of Vietnam's Ministry of Fishery, trận lê thể, Director of theDepartment of Organization and Personnel Affairs of the Ministry of Fisheries,hồ thọ, Director ofFishery Science and Technology Bureau, nguyễn trọng cẩn, Principal of NhaTrang University of Fisheries, and nguyễn kim quang,Associate Dean of Cần Thi University.

In 2002, Vietnamese President trần đức lương awarded SHOU theMedal of Friendship and affirmed the outstanding contributions made by our universityin fostering Vietnamese students.

After graduating from our SOU in 1966, trận thanh xuân firsttaught Fish Physiology at Hanoi Fishery University in Vietnam untiljoining the Anti-America Revolutionary War in Vietnam in 1973. From 1975 to1979, he had been the Deputy Director of the Department of Fishery of Ho ChiMinh City University of Agriculture and Forestry , from 1980 to 1983, he hadbeen serving as Dean of the Second Aquaculture Research Institute of Vietnam'sMinistry of Fishery and Acting Dean of the Second Aquaculture ResearchInstitute of the Ministry of Fisheryfrom 1983 to 2000; alumni nguyễn vấn sử had been workingwith the Vietnamese Fishery Research Institute from 1966 to 1976 and theDepartment of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Fishery of Vietnam from1976 to 1999 as the Director of the Department of Science and Technology, havingparticipated in the writing, editing and revision of Vietnamese Encyclopedia(Fishery Section), Laws of Vietnamese Fishery, Vietnamese Fishery EnvironmentalProtection and other publications.


At the return to SHOU this time, Vietnamese alumni presented SOU a bannerinscribed as Forever our Love to Alma Mater Remains, and ForeverSino-Vietnamese Friendship Lasts” to congratulate the 105th anniversary of thefounding of SHOU.

On November 3, Vietnamese alumni, accompanied by student and facultyvolunteers, visited the Sino-Portuguese International Joint Laboratory forMarine Biology, Zebra Fish Room, Medaka Room and other cutting-edgelaboratories and SOU campus.

The two Vietnamese alumni also wrote their thanks and blessings to theschool in Chinese. In their letters, they said: All the care and lovefrom Chinese People are still engraved in our hearts. Chinese people's profoundaffection for us, our alma mater’s kind care for us, the teachers' earnest instructionto us and the selfless help to use by our Chinese classmates, all these havedeeply impressed us and inspired us to study hard and stay enterprising.”

At present, there are 14 Vietnamesestudents studying in our school, including 1 preparatory undergraduate, 1undergraduate, 9 master and doctoral students and 3 language students. On theafternoon of November 4, Vietnamese students studying at SOU had a paneldiscussion with trận thanh xuân andnguyễn vấn sử on the 12th floorof the Image and Information Center. The two old alumni briefed Vietnamesestudents on their studies in the alma mater and encouraged them to cherish theopportunity to study hard, learn Chinese well and acquire professionalknowledge, while actively involved themselves in developing and striving to bethe bridge and ambassador for the friendship between China and Vietnam.

In order to return to their alma mater to attend the celebration thistime, they took the most economical means of transport: train, entering Chinafrom Guangxi and then transferred from Guangxi to Shanghai. The two alumnicould not bear to take the HSR, but they all donated 1,000 yuan to supporttheir alma mater.

Alumni trận thanh xuân usedto get up at 4o'clock in themorning and go to bed at six in the evening. But this time, in order to participatein the anniversary and achieve the best stage performance effect, he left thescene only after he had finished the preset performance. He sang My Motherland at the party with a moving story behind it. At the 90thanniversary in 2002, a large number of Vietnamese alumni returned to SHOU forthe event. According to alumni Yang Xin who was responsible for receiving theVietnamese alumni, after attending the celebration, the Vietnamese alumni wentto the Bund. In the face of the roaring Huangpu River, they spontaneously sangthe song with less fluent Chinese, and they sang so loudly that other touristsin the Bund joined them and sang together, all in tears.
