From October 29 to 31, relevant personnelin charge of the Graduate School, the Academic Affairs Office and the InternationalExchange Office attended the 5th Campus Asian work meeting held inSouth Korea. 12 people, including Kim Do-heon, President of the Graduate Schoolof Korea Maritime University and Toshio ISEKI, President of the Graduate Schoolof Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, attended the meeting. Themeeting was presided over by Xu Zhe, President of the School of Ocean Scienceand Technology of Korean Maritime University.
At the meeting, Kim Do-heon welcomed theparticipants of the Campus Asia program and hoped the three universities couldfurther promote the project development and enhance the academic exchange andcooperation among China, Japan and South Korea. These three universitiesintroduced their respective progress in project promotion and reached consensuson the following issues: (1) sharing curriculum information and optimizing thecurriculum through the CTSEA questionnaire; (2) identifying the scale of theexchange plan and the application time node in 2018; 3) Determining the documentsfor project application and application procedures, fees and scholarships; (4)sharing information on campus, visas, language training, etc.; (5) Determiningthe time of the 6th Campus Asia meeting.
In order to get to know more about theactual living and learning situation of our Campus Asia exchange students inSouth Korea, the delegation members visited dormitories and canteens and talkedwith 6 SOU exchange students of Korean Maritime University before the start ofthe meeting. The delegation members made detailed records and explanations forthe credits, electives, accommodation, subsidies, and graduation requirementsof dual degree programs and other problems proposed by the exchange studentsand actively coordinated with the ROK side at the subsequent work meeting onthese issues so as to ensure that our students could successfully completetheir studies.
Shanghai Ocean University (SOU) has longbeen attaching importance to the internationalization of education, havingachieved remarkable success in international exchange and cooperation, exchangestudent training, overseas study and study tours. The implementation of theOQEANOUS Program(Oversea Quality-assured Education in Asian Nations for OceanUniversity Students)jointly applied by SOU with Tokyo University of Marine Science andTechnology will further strengthen the chances for cooperation in the jointeducation in the field of marine science and technology among China, Japan andSouth Korea. The establishment of the mutual credit recognition system and the dualdegree system, the exchange of teachers and students and the sharing of CampusAsia information platform and other measures of the tree countries will play asignificant role in promoting SOU’s internationalization, enhancing thecomprehensive reform of undergraduate and postgraduate education andcomprehensively improving our personnel training quality.
