On the morning of November 27, Prof. Dwayne McCay, Presidentof Florida Institute of Technology, and Prof. Xu Peifeng, Vice President ofInternational Cooperation, visited our university. President Cheng Yudong,Director Zhong Junsheng of the Office of International Exchange, andresponsible persons from the College of Engineering warmly welcomed the guests.
Cheng Yudong, on behalf of the university, extended warm welcome toMcCay's visit. He introduced the history and the status quo of the universityand the objectives and plans for building the double first-classuniversity and international development. He also thanked Florida Institute ofTechnology for its efforts in the internationalization process of ouruniversity and hoped that Florida Institute of Technology students came to ouruniversity for various forms of exchanges. McCay said that Shanghai OceanUniversity was the earliest and the most important partner of Florida Instituteof Technology in China and the two universities shared a solid foundation andbroad prospects in oceanic cooperation. Both parties expressed theirwillingness to continuously enhance mutual understanding, learn from each other's achievements in thefuture and launch more constructive cooperation in such fields as academic andpersonnel exchanges.
Our university and Florida Institute of Technology signed anintercollegiate agreement in 2007 to jointly cultivate double-degree studentsmajoring in mechanical engineering and biological sciences. From 2008 to 2013, atotal of 25 students from our College of Fishery and Life Science, College ofEngineering and College of Food Science had gone to Florida Institute ofTechnology and majored in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,Ecology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Aquaculture, Chemistry Engineeringand other disciplines. Since 2013, faculty and student exchanges have beenmainly centering on mechanical engineering disciplines and a study tour byCollege of Engineering was sent to Florida Institute of Technology for learningand internship.
