On October 12, a delegation of four led by Jon Paul Rezek, ExecutiveChairman of Global Affairs of Eastern Carolina State University, visited ShanghaiOcean University. Relevant responsible people from International ExchangeOffice, Graduate School, College of Fisheries and Life Sciences, College ofEngineering, College of Economics and Management, and College of ForeignLanguages of Shanghai Ocean University, attended the meeting.
On behalf of our university, ZhongJunsheng, Director of the International Exchange Office, extended warm welcometo the guests. He introduced the history, discipline arrangements and thecurrent status of international exchanges and cooperation of our university.Mr. Jon Paul Rezek,Executive Director of Global Affairs of East Carolina State University,introduced the research and student development at the East Carolina StateUniversity and Prof.Jeffery Scott McKinnon, Head of the Department of Biology, gave adetailed account of the disciplines and specialist fields of the Department ofBiology. The two sides fully communicated the contents and forms of cooperationand exchange in relevant disciplines and fields and reached a cooperationintention in terms of personnel training and research in such fields asbiology, engineering and economic management. Both parties hoped to establish soundrelations of friendship, strengthen two-way exchanges and jointly promote theinternational development of the two universities under mutual understandingand substantive cooperation.
Prof. Zhu Yong and Jeffery Scott McKinnon from the delegationof East Carolina State University, communicated with the teachers and studentsof the College of Fishery and Life Science under the title of Fish ovum maturationand ovulation regulation - a study on various steroid progesterone hormonereceptor knockout and relation of the difference in the throatpigment of the thorn-back with the reduced atypia”, respectively.
The delegation also visited the dining hallof our university, the University History Museum, Aquatic Organism Museum, thenew offshore training base-the diving rescue training laboratory, the navigationmodel laboratory, and observed and experienced the training of our dragon boatteam. Foreign guests highly affirmed the environment, facilities, culturalatmosphere and cultural quality of the students of our university.
East Carolina University (ECU) is a stateuniversity founded in 1907 with a long history. At the beginning of itsestablishment, it was a normal school with the aim of improving the shortage ofteachers in the eastern United States. After nearly a century of development, theschool gradually transformed itself into today's high-level researchuniversity, with more than 100 bachelor's degree, more than 80 master's and 13doctoral programs, accommodating nearly 30000 students. Internationalization isthe focal point that the university currently concentrates on.
