Lecture title: Evolution Trends and Mechanisms of Near-Sea Algae in China(An Academic Report on Highland Disciplines of Marine Sciences)

Lecture time: 14:30-15:30, Thursday, December 14, 2017

Lecture venue: 1st Floor Meeting Room, Building 3, New andHi-Tech Park (Haiji 6 Road)

About the lecturer:

Liu Dongyan, researcher of State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and CoastalResearch, East China Normal University and outstanding young scholar of ZijiangProgram, is mainly engaged in marine algae ecology research, centering on studying“the evolution characteristics of offshore algae and the environment-drivenmechanism under the influence of climate change and human activities . Underthe dual pressures of climate change and human activities, coastal ecosystemvariation has become a common phenomenon. Among them, the evolution of algalcommunity not only affects the primary productivity of the oceans, food cycles, elemental biogeochemical cycles and climate regulation, but also causes theincrease of algal disasters (such as green tide, red tide and brown tide), damagingthe marine ecological security and social economy. At present, a series ofinternational large-scale research programs, e.g., GEOHAB (Global Ecology andOceanography of Harmful Algal Blooms), HARRNESS (Harmful Algal Research andResponse: A National Environmental Science Strategy), LOICZ (Land-oceanInteractions in the Coastal Zone), GLOBEC (Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics),IMBER (Integrated Marine Biogeochemical and Ecosystem Research), Future Earthand other programs, all take the relationship between algal community changeand environment as an important research topic, which has become one of the hotareas in oceanographic research.
