About the lecturer: Doctor Ian R MacDonald, Professor and deep-sea extreme biological oceanologist, has conducted a massive range of research work focusing on hydrocarbon compound leakage, natural gas hydrates, mud volcano system and so forth, including the positioning of sea surface oil and gas leakage by the satellite remote sensing technology; he uses professional cameras to provide the high-resolution and time series images of seafloor leakage organisms and processes, and utilizes the GIS technology to assess seafloor biocenosis and geological characteristics. He has also participated in and hosted several voyages of scientific investigation on cold springs and natural gas hydrates in the Gulf of Mexico, and related research results have been published on Nature, Geophys Res Lett, Deep-Sea Res and many other famous journals.
