Shanghai Ocean University’s Grand Singalong in Memory of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March and of the 81st Anniversary of the "December 9th Movement" Successfully Held

For the purposes of further advocating spirit of patriotism, passing on the university motto of “Diligence, Sincerity, Dedication, and Practicality” and encouraging teachers and students to adhere to their original intention for further advancement, on the evening of Nov. 22, “Power of Belief”- Shanghai Ocean University’s Grand Singalong in Memory of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March and of the 81st Anniversary of the December 9th Movement was held in the Lecture Hall of Student Activity Center. The event gathered nearly a thousand teachers and students, who sang together in memory of our common history.

The singing of these passionate and familiar classic revolutionary songs in the Lecture Hall of Student Activity Center fully exhibited the positive mental outlook of teachers and students and their belief in “Unity is Strength”. They also sang Defend the Yellow River, Ode to the Motherland, Long Wen, Anthem of the Military and Political University of Resistance Against Japan and many other revolutionary songs, some of them being vigorous and powerful while others graceful and restrained.

In their singing, we can feel their emotional reminiscence of the extremely hard and bitter revolutionary years from On the Taihang Mountain and Crossing the Snow Mountains and Marshy Grasslands; we can feel their free swimming in the sea of knowledge from Let's Paddle Together, Anthem of Shanghai Ocean University and Dance of The Youth; we can also fee their infinite love for and firm belief in our Party and our Country from the Glory and the Dream.

The leaders of the college personally took part in the rehearsal, and the diversified forms of dance, recital, instrument playing, scene play, multimedia and so forth were perfectly integrated to create a grand audio-visual feast. The frequent interactions between players and audience elevated the night to its climax.

Before the singalong, Wang Xiping, Deputy Secretary of SHOU CPC Committee and Vice President, visited the teachers and students participating in the event, and encouraged everyone to show their positive mental outlook through their singing, and to continuously adhere to the spirit of the Long March and their firm belief and original intention for further advancement.

The singalong was instructed by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Committee, sponsored by the Student Affairs Department and the Youth League, and undertaken by the Student Union. It constituted one of the series activities of the “Glory and Dream”- In Memory of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March. Since its launching in mid-Oct., various colleges have attached great importance to the event, and sung the songs in the heart of our teachers and students through class-based participation and college-wide selection. 2016 is the 95th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Long March, and also the first year in which Shanghai Ocean University has fully implemented its “13th Five-year Plan”. Through the signing of classic revolutionary songs, the teachers and students of our university have upheld our revolutionary tradition, strengthened our belief, and actively devoted themselves to the construction and development of our university into an international, open and high-grade characteristic university attaching equal importance to teaching and scientific research.
