On the morning of July, 20, Chen Changzhi, ViceChairman of the NPC Standing Committee and Chairman of the CDNCA, paid aninspection visit to SHOU, accompanied by Zhou Hanmin, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee ofCDNCA, Vice Chairman of CPPCC Shanghai Committee and Co-chairman of theShanghai Committee of CDNCA. Secretary of Party Committee of SHOU WuJiamin and Deputy Co-chairman of the Shanghai Committee of CDNCA Cheng Yudongreported the development status of our university to Chen Changzhi.

The delegation led by ChenChangzhi first visited the Hadal Scientific and Technological Mobile Laboratoryof SHOU in Lingang Marine Science Park, and listened to the introduction to thebackground, current progress and future planning of the “Rainbow Fish •Challenge to the Hadal Extreme Project” given by Professor Cui Weicheng, Headof Hadal Scientific and Technological Research Center. After listening to thereport during the visit, Chen Changzhi highly praised the outstanding,cutting-edge and internationally-advanced project being carried out by thecenter, and fully endorsed the favorable explorations made by the laboratory inimplementing the common construction pattern of winning national support andabsorbing private capitals. He also expressed his hope that the center, whileconducting scientific and technological researches, would continue toaccelerate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements,and emphasize the application of these achievements to serve national economicconstruction.

Huang Dongmei, Head of Digital Ocean ResearchInstitute and Dean of the College of Information Science, reported thescientific and technological achievements, teaching results and developmentplanning in recent years to Chen Changzhi, and, as Co-chairman of the ShanghaiOcean University Committee of CDNCA, she briefed the work of the Shanghai OceanUniversity Committee of CDNCA on behalf of the committee. Chen pointed out thatthe scientific and technological achievements made by the faculties andstudents of the College of Information Science would be very meaningful for thepromotion of the national marine strategy, and he also expressed his hope thatthe college would continue to stand on the combination of scientific researchand teaching, motivate teachers and students to learn frontier knowledge,conduct innovative researches on marine science and technology, and betterserve marine development, protection and production. Huang Yanpei, Main Founderof CDNCA, was also a founder of SHOU, so there is an indissolublebound between CDNCA and SHOU. In this context, ChenChangzhi, Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, expressed his hope that theShanghai Ocean University Committee of CDNCA and Shanghai Ocean Universitywould seek common growth and common development in the future to bettercontribute to the development of the country. After that, the delegation led by Chen Changzhi visitedwith reverence the bronze statues of the three founders of SHOU,i.e., Zhang Jian, Huang Yanpei and Zhang Liu, and recalled their contributionswith deep emotion.
The delegation also visitedthe history museum of SHOU, and encouraged itto create new glories in the principles of “hard work, continuous innovationand future development”. In the Oceanic Fisheries GIS Laboratory of NationalEngineering Research Center for Oceanic Fisheries, ChenChangzhi listened to the report given by Chen Xinjun, Dean of the College ofMarine Sciences, and came to know about the satellite ocean remote sensinginformation processing system, global oceanic fishery quick fishing forecastsystem and global fishing information service system. He fully affirmed theachievements made by SHOU in various disciplinaryfields, and expressed his hope that continuous efforts would be made tostrengthen marine discipline construction, explore marine features and servethe national marine strategy.

Finally, President ChengYudong briefed the history, reform and development of SHOU and the policy paths of its reform and development to ChenChangzhi. The latter pointed out that, since its founding as Jiangsu ProvincialSchool of Fisheries, SHOU had always adhered to itspioneering spirit of hard struggle, and that, under the innovation mechanism ofthe contemporary era, generations and generations of teachers and students hadmade prominent contributions to the development of the national marine cause. Heemphasized that scientific and technological achievements should be combinedwith market applications to serve both the production and living of the peopleand the economic development of the country, and that scientific andtechnological achievements should also be combined with teaching to enrich thecontents of teaching. He also expressed his hope that SHOUwould attach equal importance to teaching, scientific research and socialservice, and focus on the cultivation of applied talents, so as to better servethe development of local economy and make greater contributions to the developmentof national marine cause.
On behalf of theCentral Committee of CDNCA and the Shanghai Committee of CDNCA, Chen Changzhi,Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, appreciated the Party Committee ofShanghai Ocean University for its support to the work of democratic parties andto the work of CDNCA. Secretary Wu Jiamin affirmed the great contributions madeby the Shanghai Ocean University Committee of CDNCA to SHOU,and expressed the intention of Party Committee of Shanghai Ocean University tocontinuously support the work of CDNCA.
Vice Chairman Chen Changzhi wrote an inscription for SHOU, “Emphasize education tostrengthen the university, and develop industry to strengthen sea power”, andexpressed his high expectation that SHOU would continue to servethe development of the country through scientific research and talentcultivation.
