Following the successful organization of the first and second microwave remote sensing and coastal zone symposiums respectively in 2011 and 2013, the 3rd microwave remote sensing and coastal zone symposium was held in SHOU Lingang Campus from March 7 to 9, co-sponsored by the lab for ocean microwave remote sensing under International Ocean Research Center, SHOU and the national key lab for satellite and marine environmental dynamics under the 2nd Ocean Research Institution, State Oceanic Administration.
Experts and scholars from the following organizations participated in the symposium: University of Michigan, University of Texas, Niigata University, Seoul National University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, National Dong Hwa University, National Chung Cheng University, Remote Sensing and Digital Earth Institution under Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yantai Costal Zone Institution under Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xidian University, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, Zhejiang Ocean University, Beijing Remote Sensing Institution, and CNOOC Environmental Protection Service Co., Ltd.
The symposium focused on research and application of microwave remote sensing in the coastal zone and ocean, while covering at the same time such aspects as radar scattering model of microwave remote sensing, testing of oil spilling on sea surface by microwave remote sensing, application of synthetic aperture radar in ocean, application of altimeter in observing sea surface topography, data products based on the microwave remote sensing, and application of satellite remote sensing in environmental monitoring in the coastal zone.
