The 1st East Asia Island Marine Culture Forum was held in Kagoshima University from Nov. 10th to 14th. 21 scholars from China, Japan and South Korea had thorough exchanges of knowledge and views about islands and marine culture. A delegation of 6 representatives from the Marine Culture Research Center of SHOU attended the forum.
Initiated by the experts from China, Japan and South Korea at the Island Culture Research Institute of Mokpo National University, this forum is organized by the initiating units in turn. The participants gave different interpretation and analysis of islands and marine culture, from perspectives of history, cultural anthropology, archaeology, tourism, sociology, linguistics and ecology, which highlighted the important position and function of islands in ocean development and reflected the multidisciplinary and cross-cutting island research.
