International renowned Dr. Don Walsh, internationally renowned deep diving hero, Chris Welsh and Kurt Uetz, the famous explorers, visited SHOU at the invitation of Hadal Science and Technology Research Center.
Dr. Don Walsh is an American Oceanographer, explorer and expert in marine policy. He has boarded on “Trieste” to dive into the deepest area in Mariana trench with Jacques Piccard in January 23, 1960, and was regarded as “Deep-diving” hero since then.
Chris Welsh, famous as an American explorer, has attended several adventures as the main operator of some submersibles, with rich experiences to manipulate the submersible. The Deep Sub LLC/Virgin Oceanic Company founded by him is testing the Flight form underwater manned submersible “Deepflight Challenger”. And after success, they will test it in other trenches including the Mariana.
Kurt Uetz is the manager of “Alvin” renewed program in US WHOI Oceanographic Institution. In the last 10 years, he has been responsible for renewing the “Alvin” manned submersible. Therefore, he has rich experiences in management and international manned deep-sea technology.
Before Dr. Don Walsh accepted our invitation to act as adviser in Hadal Science and Technology Research Center, he and his delegation had given us a lot of technology support, helping us develop the 3rd generation of deep-sea manned submersible. The Deep Sub LLC/ Virgin Oceanic Company founded by Dr. Chris Welsh has done tremendous researches in this filed, and have already manufactured the first flight type full ocean depth submersible.
