On April 30th, 2013, the 10th AFAF / 2013 Yeosu and CAA4 with the theme of “Blue Waters and Green Fisheries” co-organized by Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) and the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science was opened in Yeosu, Korea. The conference was attended by over 300 experts and scholars from Asian and other international organizations. 12 professors and 5 graduate students from SHOU attended the conference and presented the scientific research achievements in fisheries and aquaculture in the conference, which has gained attention and appreciation from international experts.、
In this conference, new council members of AFS have been elected, and Professor Huang Shuolin from SHOU has been elected the Chairman for the 11th AFS Council. Moreover, Professor Huang Shuolin delivered a speech wishing that Asian fisheries will continue booming and providing healthy and nutritious aquatic food to the world. In his speech, Professor Huang Shuolin also stated that his job objective is to promote AFS to undertake its responsibility and uphold the work principles, strengthen the communication and collaboration between scientists and technologists in Asian fisheries and aquaculture institutions, encourage exchange of research activities, information and achievements, extend water resource protection and sustainable development activities, assist Asian countries and regions to establish branches of AFS or their own societies, and broaden the cooperation with other international organizations.
In the 5-day conference, problems in Asian fisheries and aquaculture and the sustainable development of fisheries have been discussed, covering 12 sessions including fisheries and aquaculture, aquatic food processing, nutrition and feed of aquatic animals, health and management of aquatic animals, aquatic technology and reproduction, Asia Pacific fisheries observation network, fisheries policy and fisheries socioeconomics, etc. In general, this conference has provided an information platform for Asian experts and scholars to share and exchange the status quo and latest development in fisheries and aquaculture, which will definitely promote the cooperation between scientists, industries and government administrators. Through communication in the conference, experts have shared the latest experience in sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture in each country, and have explored new methods for protection of ocean and fresh water ecology and effective utilization of different water resources.
