Eric J. Hilton, Ph.D., Associate Professor
Talk Title: Morphology, Systematics, and Evolution of Sturgeon, an Endangered Family of Fishes
Bio: Dr. Eric Hilton received both his Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation and his Ph.D. in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has held post-doctoral research positions in the Department of Geology at the Field Museum, Chicago, and in the Division of Fishes at the Smithsonian Institutions National Museum of Natural History. Since 2007 he has been in the Department of Fisheries Science of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science at the College of William and Mary, where he is now an Associate Professor of Marine Science and Curator of the VIMS Ichthyology Collection. Although he is a classically trained comparative anatomist, Dr. Hilton has broad interests in the evolutionary biology, ecology, and behavior of fishes generally. Current research projects include the anatomy and systematics of different groups of ray-finned fishes, including sturgeons, the ecology of larval fishes in estuarine environments, and the conservation biology, ecology, and management of shads and their relatives.
